Camera calibration distorted output

Hey everyone,

I've been trying for weeks to get a good calibration running and I've read through the forums about how to get a good setup. I think i'm close, but I have no idea what is causing this type of distortion on my undistored images.

The image that's bounded by the red box looks to be the correct undistored image, but I don't know what all of this noise is that is outside of the red box. Any help would be appreciated. I used 13 images in this example and I've tried using more, but the red box just goes farther away and the noise around the red box grows. Below are the results of the output:

this is because your cameras have strong radial distortion.look at this question Undistortion at far edges of image

Is the only solution to take pictures of the checkerboard on the edges of the frames? I've tried that and it doesn't produce a better result.
