I recently came upon this patent application: https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/08/fa/75/52716a6dc59f98/US20180032236A1.pdf
Combing through it, it's clear that it would make any use of the ThinPlateSpliens portion of the library an infringement of the patent (if the patent is approved).
In large, the patent application describes how to morph an image by passing some anchor points and direction vectors. Basically exactly the same process that ThinPlateSplines uses to morph between two images.
The application doesn't mention opencv or ThinPlateSplines but its effects would be pretty clear. Anyone using that portion of the library would be liable to be sued for patent infringement.
Would this patent make that part of the library obsolete (or even illegal)?
