Playing Remote Videos in Ubuntu

I have my remote ubuntu machine at my home having a video with .avi format. I have access to the remote machine through SSH and would like to use OpenCV to play this video with X11 forwarding. Can you suggest how to do this ? I get an error while trying to open the video saying "Cannot be opened"
