Type of IP Camera to analyse moving objects

asked 2015-04-18 12:48:38 -0600

Hi, I'm starting an industrial project to read numbers on moving food bags.

I bought an Ubiquiti AirCam, but the refresh rate (30 fps) doesn't give enough images and some images are blurred.

Obviously, using a 60fps camera will help, but is there some king of video sensor that gives better result on moving object? Some settings that might give better results? Do you have some advice about the hardware choice? Some examples?

Hi, Congelli501. Did you make any progress on this? I'm working on a similar project and have the same questions/concerns.

On a related topic, what digital format are you getting from your camera(s)? I'm wondering if it's possible to get uncompressed frames from an IP camera (thus avoiding having to waste time doing the decompression on my computer), or if only compressed frames/video are available from the camera.

This camera is most probably not the right choice for an industrial project. If you have moving objects, than you'll want a triggered camera so that you know when an image was acquired. If your images are blurred, then the exposure takes too long. So you will have to improve the lighting of your scene so that you can work with a very short exposure so that the objects move as little as possible while the image is captured.

Some starting point for hardware could be something like this:

( I'm not working as Basler ;) )
