KMeans for color reduction local

Hello, When I use Means for color reduction, its working when there is a small number of colors in the image, but when the image is bigger and there are more colors its not perfect some colors are missing. Is it possible to make adaptive color reduction in function of the position in the image ? Thx, cjacquel
