Why use hue channel of HSV for mean shift tracking?

Usually examples and codes is convert RGB to HSV and split hue channel. I dont know the reason. Can anyone tell me the reason or is there any detail theory or examples about it?

Theoretically, the color value in the H channel is not influenced by the image brightness and saturation. You get the "pure" color disregarding the actual lighting (which might change over time).
