I'm adding two mat type of image,

I convert both image in gray scale (8UC1) but after adding these pixels some pixel which should be greater than 255 then it is exact 255 ...what should i do? so it is all while picture after adding or multiplying....please tell me what i am doing wrong?in Java OpenCV
