Is stitching module able to stitch images taken from a parallel motion camera ?

Hi,

I was wondering if the stitching module is able to stitch the images taken from a camera that is in parallel motion to the plane which is being photographed ?

I know that generally all the panoramic stitching tools assume that the center of the camera is fixed and that the camera only experiences motion such as pan or pitch.

I was thinking if I can use this module to stitch the image taken from a camera which moves parallel to the plane. The idea is to create a panoramic map of the ground.

I'm using stitching module (OpenCV246) to combine images from 6 cameras on one shelf. Results is good, but unpredictable (son stable) - each run my program with the same input data can generate different results.

I'm not familiar with the OpenCV Stitching method, but slightly different results make sense depending on the implementation. Usually at some point RANSAC may be used to estimate the transformation between two images. In that case the random selection of keypoints lead to different transformations.

How do you stitch your images? Using feature detection and matching then transformed of an image? If yes then, RANSAC is very useful to detect best inliner point from two corresponding images. and then you can apply transformation of an image.
