I have just started in cv2, but when i low the threshold to 0.42 (wich is the best option) i only detect the player, im not an english speaker so i am not sure if that is your problem but i understood that you were not having any matches, if you low the threshold value, it will be more permissive and will detect the sprite (if you low it to much, it will detect it everywhere) I hope you can fix your problem, and that i have helped you.
