That's not an answer but Images are necessary to explain. In your result image size is greater than 32767 if assertion is thrown.
My two images are :
Now result size depends of projection type in wraperwrap :
Cylindrical projection 
Spherical projection 
plane projection
Fisheye projection is it a bug ?
